Post 16 Curriculum Framework

The Post 16 Department follows a distinct and different curriculum which focuses on skills for transition. The individual needs of all pupils are at the centre of our curriculum design; each student has an individual timetable which allows students to develop their skills appropriate to their needs.

Each student has an individual time table which is made up of at least seven of the following sections.

  • Creative studies
  • Cultural studies
  • Personal Development and Citizenship
  • Independent Living Skills
  • Leisure, Recreation and Sport
  • Work Related
  • Basic Skills
  • Physical Development

Most students are expected to achieve accreditation in each of their chosen sections; students with very complex needs are expected to achieve accreditation in three sections. The main accreditation of the curriculum is through ASDAN, although other methods of accreditation may also be used. The Post 16 curriculum is naturally dominant in one of two areas, either PSHE or Work Related. However, the emphasis for each student depends on their individual needs. Time tables are designed to be varied and to build on students interests; they are also designed to give a sound preparation for adult life. Through our curriculum we make good use of a range of learning environments, these include:-

  • School
  • College
  • Community
  • Work related environments

Allowing students to develop confidence in a range of situations and with a range of people is important; our students are encouraged to be as independent as possible and to take this independence forward into adult life.
