Key Stage 4 Curriculum

At KS4 students follow the ASDAN Transition Challenge curriculum which promotes independence as students make the transition to adulthood. KS4 students are based in class groups but have many opportunities to experience other social groups. For example, KS4 groups work closely together, regularly sharing activities and special events. KS4 groups also work closely with Post 16 students, working together in some activities. The KS4 curriculum consists of five modules:-

  • Making Choices
  • Feeling Good
  • Knowing How
  • Taking the Lead
  • Moving Forward

Each module has thirteen subjects within them, these are based on National Curriculum subjects, the underlying theme, however, is on PSHCE and Transition towards adulthood. Our KS4 curriculum is creative and flexible. It allows for students individual needs to be at the forefront of planning and where necessary for individual students for their time table to be designed to reflect their individual needs. At KS4 students are beginning to access the community as a resource much more and are using learning bases other than their own classroom, although this remains an important part of their learning. Students also access the range of specialist resources and provision within the school. Our aim at KS4 is to continue to prepare students for adult life and the challenges beyond The Redway School.
