The PE curriculum has been developed and expanded over the last few years. Pupils cover all 6 areas of the PE National Curriculum in each Key Stage offering them a vast range of activities to enjoy and many opportunities for them to succeed.

Pupils cover one area per half term including Gymnastics, Games, Dance, Trampolining, Outdoor and Adventurous Activities (OAA) and Athletics. Throughout the year pupils will have one lesson a week of swimming in our new and improved hydrotherapy pool with its new technology including spotlights, fog machines, switches, light scenarios and projectors. Additionally some pupils have a hydrotherapy session in the pool, continuing our close work with the Physiotherapists, and follow their daily physiotherapy programmes in class. Pupils also have daily playtimes on our playground and field.

In addition to PE lessons we offer pupils the opportunity to participate in new activities in the various festivals and trips we attend during the year. As part of the School Sports Coordinator Special School Family we have a yearly Badminton Festival, Boccia Festival, Basketball Festival, Key Stage 1 & 2 Multi Skills Morning, Athletics Festival, and OAA Challenge Days.

We run two Sports Clubs a week; the Tuesday Sports Club is for Secondary and Post 16 students and runs from 3:15 until approximately 5:30. Over the past two years we have been involved in Climbing, Caving, Sailing, Ten Pin Bowling, Trampolining, Swimming and Games. The Thursday Sports Club is for pupils in the Primary department from 3:15 until 4:30. We enjoy activities in school such as Gymnastics, Trampolining, Swimming, Soft Play, the Playground and Multi Skills Games, and at the end of each term we go on trips to Fun Swimming Pool and Activity Land.

Every year we have a Healthy Living Week including a Football Skills Session, going to the Bedford Oasis Pool, going Sailing and Canoeing at Caldecotte, Trampolining and Rebound sessions, and a Sherborne Session. For the past few years we have enjoyed a week’s School Residential to the Calvert Trust where we participate in activities like Sailing, Climbing, Abseiling, Canoeing, Horse Riding, Biking, Challenge Courses, and Orienteering Games.

All these trips and yearly activities add to the PE curriculum and increase the opportunities we are able to offer to the pupils ensuring they have fun in their PE lessons and PE activities.
