Occupational therapy at The Redway
At The Redway School, the occupational therapy team is responsible for providing care and advice to children with identified occupational therapy needs.
How does the OT team work?
Assessing and reviewing each child’s needs regularly, we set child specific goals which aim to help the children access the curriculum and participate in activities of daily life to the best of their ability. This may be achieved through provision of specialist seating, environmental adaptation, and specialist tools.
This may be also be achieved through programmes of stretching and active play to assist children whose movement may be limited, or through advice to class for developing skills for independence.
We work closely with the school education, medical and other therapy teams, as well as our colleagues in the community to ensure a good, multidisciplinary service is provided.
The occupational therapy team at The Redway School aims to forge close links with parents and community medical and therapy teams in order to minimise disability and maximise development opportunities for referred children.
Where does OT take place?
We work with the children in a variety of settings around the school including in their classroom, the therapy room and the dark room.
