Swimming Gala at Stoke Mandeville Stadium
We were invited to compete in the Pananthlon Swimming Finals at Stoke Mandeville Stadium on 17th May. It gave us the opportunity to put our new skills that we have been learning at Bletchley Leisure Centre to the test. Lewis, Oliver, Ralfs, Dylan, Nile, Alex and Josh were all keen to do us proud and that’s exactly what they did! The races were full on 25 metre races in lanes with swimming and poolside support by Sports Leaders from Sir Herbert Leon Academy. Then there were some shorter races where children could also use woggles or floats if they needed to. To finish off the children got to have some real fun in some team races, collecting equipment from the bottom of the pool, collecting floats as well as swimming a ball all the way down to the deep end to take a shot at the goal at the end.
After all this excitement we changed and had our well-earned lunch before the presentation. We came a very respectable 5th place and met Sam Hynd who is a Gold Medallist at the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games and a Bronze Medallist from London 2012. The boys got to hold real Olympic medals and pose for pictures with Sam. You can see the official write up at www.panathlon.com. The boys came away with a huge sense of achievement as well as their own medals.
Definitely a day to remember for us at The Redway.
