As always, it was good to be back to a normal routine as from last Monday.
Our staff training days on Monday and Tuesday ensured that we were able to cover Safeguarding requirements, with further in depth training to follow later this term. Staff also had time to prepare the classrooms and lessons ready for the return of the pupils on Wednesday.
Wednesday arrived, and it was wonderful to see the happy smiling faces of the pupils returning to school. There were some very happy parents and carers too!
We welcomed some of our new pupils, and our new pupils in Early Years start on Monday. We also had several new staff members, our new teacher Louise, as well as new STA’s.
Our full school assembly on Wednesday focussed on several themes but the main one being ‘wiping the slate clean!’ The start of a new school year means that we all start again and focus on the positive as well as the year ahead. We sang a song from the past – ‘Everything will be alright’ and it will be!
Victor, Brenda’s new hearing dog has really settled well into the school community and supports her well.
Sam has been updating displays – thank you to those of you who sent in photographs of your son / daughter over the holiday to be included on this special display – any more will be welcomed. She has also completed a display of pets in school as we do seem to have a lot who come in and contribute well to the school community.
Our off site learning, and Forest Schools activities also started this week - Lee, Carolyn, Jo and all teachers have fully embraced this. A highlight of the week was kite flying on Dunstable Downs – a fantastic vehicle for developing communication and interaction skills.
We are anticipating that the pool will be fully operational again by the end of this next week. The roofing panels have all been replaced and the structural engineer has been out to check on the beams, and given the OK for its use. So, all that remains is for the scaffolding to come down, hopefully on Tuesday, the chemical levels to be sorted as we are currently having some issues with these, and for the whole of the pool area to have a deep clean – including several back washes of the pool to ensure that all is well.
The new build of two new classrooms continues well. The footings are all in and this week we are expecting the external walls to be built - - it is all very exciting.
All in all an extremely positive start to the new academic year.
Hoping everyone is having a lovely weekend and enjoying the autumn sunshine.
