Sensory Storytelling Day
Bag Books is a learning disability literacy charity. They write and make multi-sensory stories for children and young people with severe or profound learning difficulties. They are also appropriate for young children on the autistic spectrum.
Their stories are a collection of 6 or 7 large A3 cards per book which have 1 verbal sentence per card and a sensory object attached. The objects are inviting materials or items which the participants can feel, smell or hear and with visual stimuli in shiny, bright, bold, colours. The stories are told through the emotion in the storyteller's voice and the sensory object.
We have been extremely lucky to have been offered a full day of sensory story telling here from Bag Books at The Redway this week. The visitors saw a number of groups who were extremely engaged and explored the different objects and sensory experiences the stories had to offer. The stories we heard included ‘Pirates’, ‘A Day Beside the Seaside’ and ‘The Match’. The pictures below reflect the enjoyment from the day. The company also donated a number of resources for continued use in school which we were very grateful for.
