25th January 2020

Our topic this term is ‘The Magic of the Musicals’ and classes have really embraced this and are enjoying work based around The Lion King, Mary Poppins, Frozen, The Wizard of Oz, Cats and many more. Whilst walking around school and Transitions this week there was an air of calmness in classes as well as throughout the school and lots of positive, engaging learning occurring. This is very pleasing to note.

As you will see from some of the photograph’s pupils have also enjoyed lots of sensory experiences, including using a range of mediums for mark making. Usually, these sessions are successful the messier they are! The feedback we have from parents and carers is that if their child returns home ‘messy’ they know they have had a good day! Well, this certainly applied to a lot of pupils this week.

As you are all well aware, Jerry never misses an opportunity to dress up, so on Wednesday his assembly was about Burns Night -  hence the Scottish outfit and theme! All pupils rose to the challenges he presented and the tartans they designed in assembly are now on display in school. There is more about this on our school Facebook Page which is a closed group. It’s Peter’s assembly next Wednesday – all about Chinese New Year so this will be an interesting one too – I’m sure.

Thank you to all who came along to our Parents Support Group Meeting on Thursday, it was good to see those of you who and also to use one of the new classrooms before the pupils take over! I know that Sam is in the process of asking for some feedback as well as planning further sessions with different themes.

Last Friday was the first Transitions Café of the new school year and everyone was glad that ‘Cake Friday’ had returned!  Please do remember to come along on a Friday between 10am and 11am to support this enterprise venture as the pupils do appreciate your contribution to developing their independence and communication skills – and much, much more.

Hoping that everyone is having a good weekend.
