Saturday 14th of October 2017
The penultimate week before half term has been action packed! Sharon has been out all week on the first part of her course in Dorset, which embraces how horses and other animals can enrich the life and well being of all our pupils, which we are going to put into practice as soon as is feasibly possible. Carolyn has risen to the challenge of leading some Forest Schools Groups with a variety of different pupils, all of who have really engaged, participated and responded well to this. Saturday 7th of October 2017
This week started with something a little different! Sharon arranged, as part of our outdoor education work, for a willow-weaving workshop to occur in school, on the field. The majority of pupils participated at times during the day and with support from class staff were able to help produce the final willow structure on the gate onto the field. The main highlight of this week has been our two harvest festivals. Thank you to all who came along and supported us, as well as donating produce. Patrick and...

There has been a lot happening in school this week – as always! New staff completed their mandatory safeguarding training after school on Monday.  On Thursday and Friday some of our new staff received their Team Teach Training. This Monday some groups will be participating in Moving and Handing Training, whilst others Epilepsy Training with the school nursing team.  All of which is a mandatory requirement for staff and as such we have a rolling programme of training. A special moment...

Sunday 24th of September 2017
Week 3 of a new academic year is always an interesting one and this week certainly was! This week and usually week 4 is when the ‘honeymoon’ period with our pupils is over and they present us all with some challenges to resolve, which we have done and embraced in style! Our new pupils and staff have settled in extremely well and have embraced the special Redway ethos. When walking around school and the Transitions Department, throughout the week this was apparent – everyone was very...

Lily relaxes during music and movement - dressed as Fantastic Mr Fox!
Saturday 16th of September 2017
Our first full week back at school has been a productive one. Our new pupils have settled well into their class groups and our new staff are embracing The Redway ethos! We have now worked a full week of new class timetables and have ‘ironed out’ any slight hiccups or changes that needed to be made so hopefully all will be well next week with no further changes required. A highlight of the week happened on Wednesday – our ‘Dahlicious Dress Up Day!’ We had a host of Mr...

The summer holidays are now over, and we are all back into our usual routine at school. I hope you all had a lovely summer break. Aiden smiles for the camera!
Saturday 5th of August 2017
This years Summer Activity Scheme ended yesterday and it signifies the end of another academic year for me and also to the staff who worked, without whom it would not be possible to offer this addition to the school year. We certainly have had a lot of fun, from visits out, including paddle boarding, canoeing (in the rain!), kite flying on Dunstable Downs, karting, a successful trip to the cinema to name a few. Staff in Transitions have ensured that the pupils based there have continued with their...

Saturday 29th of July 2017
The summer holidays have arrived!  Di, the Leadership Team, and the school staff, as well as myself appreciate how difficult this long holiday is for our pupils, parents and carers. Some of us find it a bit daunting too and are looking forward to September! However, we have had a fantastic week one of the summer activity scheme. The staff have been very proactive in arranging different activities for the pupils to enjoy – both off site and on site. Most pupils swam every day - we even made...

Saturday 22nd of July 2017
The last week of an academic year is always one full of happiness, emotions and things to be sorted! This week was such for everyone. All teachers and support staff ensured that the last week in school was a positive one for all the pupils with lots of great interactions and communication opportunities. The highlight of the week though was our Carnival Day on Thursday. The weather was not great at the start of the day – but we overcame this and ignored it, so we just got a little damp! We...

We all enjoyed singing and performing to some of our favourite songs from the films of Walt Disney  - the Mayor sang all they way through with gusto and a smile on his face! Thank you to everyone who came along and supported us and for your generous donations. Wednesday evening brought along our annual Leavers Ball – always a happy evening but tinged with sadness. It was a delightful celebration...

After a week away at The Calvert Trust this week has been a bit of a ‘catch up’ one! It was great to be back in school to see all the pupils and staff. This week has been our MFL (Modern Foreign Language) focus week in school. As you are all aware this year we went for something different from our norm – Chinese and China! All classes embraced this ‘with gusto!’ as you can see from the photographs. Mike will be writing an article about this which will soon go on the school...

What a week this has been – both in school and down in Devon where a group of pupils accompanied by staff were on a 7 night residential. Everyone was affected by the exceptionally hot weather. In school I know that a lot of water play occurred, which is great for developing pupils communication skills as well as having a lot of fun and keeping cool. Please could you all ensure that we have sun tan cream in school as well as a hat for your son / daughter. All pupils and staff who attended the...

It seems surreal that we are coming towards the end of the half term holiday and that June is upon us. I hope that you all are enjoying the lovely weather and half term break. First, a bit of a catch up from the last week of school as there was no Headteachers Weekly Update. On Thursday we interviewed for a second Senior Teacher Post to join our Leadership Team. We have updated the Leadership Team ready for September in line with our growing school population. The candidates were all very good but after...

There has been a very happy ‘buzz’ around school this week with lots of positive things happening. First, well done to the pupils from Daffodils and Bluebells who attended a swimming competition at Stoke Mandeville Stadium with pupils from other special schools in the south. This was a first for us and they did very well. I would like to start this week’s update by thanking everyone for all their best wishes, comments of support and sponsorship for my running of the London Marathon last weekend. It was as, always a fantastic day, the sun shone, the crowds were brilliant and the atmosphere special. Running London is a unique experience and I revelled in every minute of it (well perhaps not between miles 16 and 19 which were a bit of a struggle!) Congratulations too to George’s Mum, Sarah and also to Nikki both of...

A huge thanks goes to Sam and the café team, as well as school staff, parents and carers for their support of this. This week we said ‘Goodbye...

During the week we interviewed for new teachers for September and we successfully recruited two new ones. We are hoping that they will be able to join us for our training day in May and also be able to spend some time in school before...

It’s astounding to think that we only have another 2 weeks until we break up on the 31st for the Easter Holidays. Where does the time go? So please remember that at 10am on the 31st we have our end of term Easter Assembly to which you are all invited. As the school grows it does become more of a challenge to fit everyone into the space we have for assemblies but we always manage to do it! But before that we have a lot happening.
