Head Teacher's Updates

8th December

Saturday 8th of December 2018
The highlight of this week was our first Christmas Concert at Christ the Cornerstone Church on Thursday. We were joined by the Mayor, many parents, carers, grandparents and friends of the school. Due to our rise in numbers we did not take the whole school as the pupils in Early Years and some primary classes will walk to St Mary’s Church, Woughton on the Green on Wednesday for their special concert. Thank you though to all who came on Thursday we raised £130 in donations – this is very...

1st December

Saturday 1st of December 2018
As I sit and write it’s hard to believe that we are now in December – how did 2018 pass so quickly? This week, several classes have been on their end of term Christmas outings and have had a lovely time – others will be going out over the forthcoming weeks.  From the photographs I have seen from the visits so far, the looks on our pupils faces demonstrate they had a wonderful time. Verity took a group of pupils to a Boccia tournament where they met with pupils from other...

Saturday 24th of November 2018
On Monday we held our Parents Consultation Afternoon, which was well attended. We were pleased with all the positive comments from parents and carers about the work that we do. It’s always good to have these discussions about how your son / daughter is at school and the work that we have been doing. We had a visitor  - all the way from America this week. Nate, who used to teach at The Redway and his daughter came and spent a morning in school, catching up with staff and those pupils whom he...

Saturday 17th of November 2018
A slightly different week this week. I was on residential with a group of pupils and staff at The Calvert Trust in Devon. All pupils and staff really excelled – we were well supported in our two groups by Cat, Tyler and John. The weather was kind to us - amazingly so for November. Back at school arrangements have been sorted for our new bucket swing and other items to be installed at the rear of school just left of Brabham Classroom. We are thrilled with this as it will make a huge difference to...

Saturday 10th of November 2018
As always, it was good to see the pupils back in school on Tuesday. We all hope that everyone had a lovely half term break. Over the half term lots of servicing of equipment has been carried out, the hoists, tracking, gym equipment as well as work on the air handling units and PAT testing – all gripping stuff! We also had a team of volunteers in school who did a lot of painting and tidying up for which we are very thankful. Monday was our training day, many staff were involved in essential...

All things relating to Bollywood was the focus for our Creative Arts Week this week in school. This linked in well with our topic focus of India this term. Classes have created Rangoli patterns using powder paint, danced to Indian music, and much, much more. Sam has done a wonderful display of work and photographs. Our scarecrows continue to inhabit various areas of school and our chosen one for the competition at Frosts – Jennifer – sadly did not win the competition at Frosts but they...

Saturday 20th of October 2018
The scarecrows came to town this week!  All classes rose to the challenge of the competition. Staff and pupils paid to vote for the best one (in their opinion) The winner was Jennifer! Charlotte and Sam took her to Frosts to participate in their display. The other scarecrows are on display both inside and outside school. They are a bit special – classes have worked hard on these and they look fantastic. Well done to everyone. The architects came to see where our new build for the new two...

We were definitely blessed with the weather this week for our two Harvest Festivals at St Mary’s Church. This is one of several special occasions of our school year to which we all look forward. St Mary’s is such a beautiful church and Paul, the vicar and his helpers are always so welcoming and accommodating.  The walk through the orchard really helps set the scene – we have formative plans for something slightly different next year! Thank you though to everyone who came along to...

First, we have to say Congratulations to Tracy who had confirmation that she has passed her Masters Degree this week.  Well done to her – it has been a lot of hard work but she has been dedicated and determined. We are all very proud she has achieved this as well as being pleased for her. We have all enjoyed and made the most of the lovely autumnal weather this week, with lots of off site learning happening. Which is a good thing, as whilst typing this, sitting in the conservatory at home the...

First, thank you to all who supported our café on Friday in aid of Macmillan Cancer. It was very much appreciated. Next weeks Friday letter will inform everyone of the amount raised. The water leak is now all sorted, but we still have a hole! Anglian water are waiting until things dry out a little before completing the work. The stables though are still standing – we are just without a shed – but this will be rectified as soon as possible. However, other major water leaks have...

22nd September

Saturday 22nd of September 2018
Our second full week of the new academic year has presented us with a few challenges! The main one being a major water leak near the stables and forest schools area at the top of the field. However, I have to say that Anglian Water and all their subcontractors have been fantastic in the work they have done, help they have given and liaising with school. Hopefully by Monday all will be back to normal, the hole refilled and the shed re constructed! Though I am sure the rain of this weekend will not be...

15th September

Saturday 15th of September 2018
Our first full week of the new academic year. It started in a very frustrating way with no Internet access at the main site on Monday and Tuesday. We all struggled with this, not only me but also the staff and the pupils  – but all is now well! But there have been lots of positive things happening this week. Our outdoor learning activities began with lots of happy smiling faces from the pupils, Sharon brought her horses down to school for some groups to look after, tend and bond with on...

It’s been a whirlwind of a week in school - as usual at the start of a new academic year. We had 2 busy but enhancing training days on Monday and Tuesday. We were all ready for being back to normal on Wednesday when the pupils arrived back. It was good to see everyone- there were lots of happy faces and everyone seems to have grown! We had 2 great assemblies on Wednesday morning that started the new school year with a ‘con brio’ spirit! Lots of fun was had by all. On Monday we...

22nd July

Sunday 22nd of July 2018
The end of the academic year is always an emotional one when we say ‘goodbye and good luck’ to our leavers. This year it’s been more so as we said goodbye to pupils who are moving onto other schools. Thank you to those of you who came along to our end of year assemblies – it was good to see you all there. So we said ‘So Long, Farewell, Auf Wiedersehen, Goodbye’ to quote from the Sound of Music to Jaydon, Priya, Samira and Tony from Transitions, and to Dylan, Nile,...

Saturday 14th of July 2018
What a busy week this has been, but we have all enjoyed every moment of it. The highlight of the week was of course our summer concert on Tuesday. Thank you to everyone who came along to support us, and sing along to some of our favourite songs all relating to this term topic the Caribbean and carnival. The church was awash with colour and everyone had a great time. On Wednesday we held the first of our 2 transition days where pupils spent the day with their new class groups. We welcomed new pupils...

It’s definitely been ‘Hot Hot Hot!’ this week both in and out of school! But we have had lots of fun with outside learning (in the shade) and also lots of water play which is always a good vehicle for developing and extending pupils communication and interaction skills as well as keeping cool! More classes have been on their end of term visits - some went to Mead Open Farm; others to Whipsnade Zoo and pupils from Cassia had a very successful overnight camping stay at Basil’s...

23rd June

Saturday 23rd of June 2018
The residential visit to The Calvert Trust in Devon went smoothly this week, all pupils excelled but a special mention has to be made to Ruby and also Alex who were superstars. Having said that, all pupils did very well and the staff were amazing. Everyone rose to each and every challenge presented to us by our team leaders Steve and Jon.  A good week was had by all, with lots of fun, frolics and laughter too. A special thanks has to go to the staff that made this possible. In school this week were...

9th June

Saturday 9th of June 2018
What a week this has been! It’s been a very busy and exciting one. Sunflowers and Daffodils both had their end of term trips (not together and to different venues) and a good time was had by all! But we had our further two sports day mornings where everyone at every level participated and engaged well – including the staff race and the parent’s race on Thursday! Well done to all the staff for ensuring this was a success but also to Team PE for organising. We were once again...

26th May

Sunday 27th of May 2018
Redway has been a busy place this week! On Tuesday to support our whole school topic of The Caribbean we all experienced a wonderful day of steel pans playing and performing. This ended with the majority of the school listening, dancing and enjoying a performance at the end of the day. This was enhanced by the lovely sunny weather, as we held the workshops on the field. Wednesday brought our Early Years Sports Morning; although a tad chilly we all embraced the morning with a ‘Con Brio’...

Saturday 19th of May 2018
The highlight of this week was our Outdoor Learning Focus Day on Thursday. All classes really embraced this concept and as you will know from the Friday Letter all pupils had a wonderful day. Next year outdoor learning (which is different to forest schools work) will be a timetabled activity for all classes. Well done to everyone but especially Sharon for leading on this. This week classes have also been focussing on the Royal Wedding which was also the theme for our assembly on Friday. Lots of...

After a very busy Healthy Living Week in School this week has been an almost normal one!  The weather of the Bank Holiday weekend ensured that when we were back in school on Tuesday, staff and pupils were very happy after imbibing in sunshine – including me! Well done to Team Maple for a very successful overnight stay at Caldecotte. There were some amazing photographs and everyone certainly had a wonderful time with lots of positive feedback. On Friday we had our first session with staff...

I hope that you are all enjoying the warm sunshine. What a difference it makes! What a wonderful week this has been. We have truly embraced Healthy Living! Highlights of the week were the walks to Willen from school, fun in the water park and also at Basil’s Barn. All pupils and staff had a remarkable time participating in a host of activities promoting healthy living – even when the weather was dubious - - we still did it! Huge thanks go to the Verity, Helen and the PE team, Sharon...

After the lovely warm, sunny weather at the end of last week, which we all enjoyed this past week, has been back to normal! All the pupils have continued to have fun in their learning, - especially Jerry’s assembly St George on Friday afternoon. Pupils from Cassia Class attended a swimming gala and were all very pleased with their achievements and also their medals. This leads nicely on to remind everyone that this week is our Healthy Living Week and we have lots of different activities planned...

22nd April

Sunday 22nd of April 2018
I’m sure that those of you who know me well would know that I’d prefer to be pounding the streets of London today - -  sadly I had to withdraw – due to issues with my knee - - but I will be running the Oxford Half in October and hopefully London again next year. I am though going through the day in my mind as to where I would be at a specific times -  I also hope that Rich (Grace’s Dad) is doing well – the heat is not good for marathons! Please can you all sponsor...

Saturday 14th of April 2018
The first week of the Summer Term has been a busy one. We all welcomed the pupils back to school on Monday and have had a fun filled week of learning. Thank you all for supporting our Autism Awareness Day on Friday. There were some interesting ‘onesies’ and blue outfits. We held a collection at Reception, the café and Palms stall proceeds will go towards this. The total raised will be counted next week and will be in the Friday Letter. We had several new school passenger transport...
