22nd March

Sunday 22nd of March 2020
This week, as you will appreciate has been a difficult one in school. As the song says, ‘ The times they are a changing!’ The Strategic Leadership Team have been working very hard to put in place plans for the future, which will be finalised tomorrow as well as striving to ensure that staff are fully briefed at all times and that morale remains positive. Obviously, our pupil numbers have reduced in school this week,  but for those who have been in school learning and activities have...

15th March

Some good news - Lee and the outdoor learning team take our pupils to Ampthill Great Park. With the supportive letter from Lee as well as others they have secured funding to install some equipment relevant to the needs of our pupils and other with special needs -  this is the information Lee received: "The equipment we will be installing will include a basket swing, trampoline, zip wire, wooden climbing structure and outdoor gym equipment. The group shelter will be installed by mid-April. The...

7th March

Saturday 7th of March 2020
This week has been a quiet week in school, with lots of positive learning occurring, which has been very pleasing to see whilst on my walks around school. Pupils have been following through their therapy programmes, with lots of pupils in their standers and walking frames going around school, others enjoying their sensory integration sessions and everyone enjoying time in the pool. Several birthdays were also celebrated, with lots of cake being eaten! As you are all aware our soft playroom is in...

29th February

Saturday 29th of February 2020
The first week back at school after the half term holiday was for staff a melancholy one due to the passing of Jaycee May. She will always be remembered in school as a very bubbly young lady, who was full of life and a joy to teach. She will be sadly missed. All our thoughts have been with her family at this time. However, life at school continued and Wolverton and Whaddon classes moved into their classrooms in the new building. They have all settled really well, but one pupil did check the fire alarm...

16th February 2020

Sunday 16th of February 2020
What a delightful start to the half term holiday with storm Dennis in full flow – lots of wind and rain. Fingers crossed that the weather will improve so that everyone can get outside and enjoy nature at its best. Driving into school this week it has been a joy to see more snowdrops out in bloom and on Friday  I even spotted some crocuses. Spring I think is on its way – even though a tad wet with a lot of flooding around. So, it’s been a busy week in school, especially clearing...

8th February 2020

Sunday 9th of February 2020
Driving to and from school this week, the frosty, foggy and slightly sunny mornings have been an absolute delight. There have been some wonderful eerie scenes on the way into school, especially with the full moon still in view during the early morning daylight. This together with the arrival of snowdrops, which are a pleasure to see, are now out in bloom, make a huge difference, knowing that spring is on its way. Hopefully the weather will continue to improve as it always lifts everyone’s spirits...

1st February 2020

Saturday 1st of February 2020
January always feels like a very long month after the Christmas period, the dark mornings and evenings together with the dull, dismal weather can have an impact on everyone. But, as always at The Redway we have thoroughly embraced this and throughout January we have, in the words of the song,  been ‘accentuating the positive!’ Although it has been a quiet week in school there has also been a lot happening. Furzton Class moved to their new larger classroom and revelled in the...

25th January 2020

Saturday 25th of January 2020
Our topic this term is ‘The Magic of the Musicals’ and classes have really embraced this and are enjoying work based around The Lion King, Mary Poppins, Frozen, The Wizard of Oz, Cats and many more. Whilst walking around school and Transitions this week there was an air of calmness in classes as well as throughout the school and lots of positive, engaging learning occurring. This is very pleasing to note. As you will see from some of the photograph’s pupils have also enjoyed lots of...

18th January 2020

Saturday 18th of January 2020
It has been a quiet and calm week in school. The pupils have all settled back into their usual school routines and there has been some positive learning taking place. On Monday, Dragons and Aston Martin were pleased to have a new swim slot in our school pool whilst the new groups of pupils from several classes across school had a successful swim at Bletchley Pool with Verity, who was very impressed with some swimming skills. Well done to all pupils with this. A highlight of the week was the handover...

11th January 2020

Saturday 11th of January 2020
Happy New Year to you all and all the very best for 2020. The first week back at school after Christmas is always a challenging one – dark mornings and nights, dismal weather and little ’sparkle and shine.’ However, once the pupils arrived back in school on Tuesday morning with their happy, smiling faces and excitement the ‘sparkle and shine’ returned to us all. We were so pleased to welcome them back. This week has been a settled one in school -  everyone was happy...

7th December

Saturday 7th of December 2019
Christmas has officially arrived! There was an air of excitement, full of ‘awe and wonder’ when the pupils entered school on Monday amazed by the decorations, trees and lights. As always, some pupils are so fascinated with the corridor lights in particular they just want to sit and look at them! This is usual, staff are skilled in allowing them to do so at key points during the day. Throughout the week, classes have been ‘beavering away’ in making their special goods for our...

30th November St Andrew's Day

Saturday 30th of November 2019
‘Twas the week before Christmas’ begins at The Redway School. We are still affected by sickness which has had an impact on both staff and pupils, but we have remained positive and open – which has been a challenge, but everyone rose to it. However, I would like to ask, yet again for pupils not to come in to school if they are unwell, even with a slight cold as this can impact on others – staff included. We have started practicing our Christmas songs for all three of our...

24th November

Sunday 24th of November 2019
This past week has been a challenge! Many staff, pupils and parents have been affected by the sickness virus which appears more prevalent than usual. Thank you for your support and understanding with the classes that we had to close to enable the remainder of the school to function efficiently – it’s never an easy decision but we need to ensure that we continue with our high standards of education and care at all times. We are not the only school  that has been affected by this, many other...

17th November

Sunday 17th of November 2019
We have had several different themes within school this week. At the start of the week we focussed upon Remembrance with several pupils attending the Remembrance Ceremony in Milton Keynes on Monday. Classes made ‘memory wreaths’ decorated with special things which they remember, or which help them to remember ready for assembly on Wednesday. Assembly on Wednesday was all about remembrance, but also being thankful. Those of us who were able, stood for National Anthem, we sang relevant songs...

9th November

Saturday 9th of November 2019
This week, we welcomed  our new teacher Jodi, who will be leading Robins class and also some new support staff to the school. As always it was good to see the pupils back in school after the half term holiday. Over the holiday a lot of routine maintenance work has occurred from new boilers being fitted at the Transitions Department to PAT testing of all electrical equipment as well as all the PE equipment, hoists and tracking having their safety checks. I am pleased to report that all is...

26th October

Saturday 26th of October 2019
This half term seems to have flown by!  We are, though all pleased that the half term holiday is here – the pupils and staff are ready for a week’s break, even though as I write this is a very wet, miserable and dreary day in Oxford. During this week, we have had a lot of training occurring in school for our staff and those from other special schools in Milton Keynes. Staff participated in essential Safeguarding Training updates, a two day Rebound Therapy Course, Team Teach Training,...

19th October

Saturday 19th of October 2019
It’s been a challenging week in school due to the high number of staff absent with illness. Thank you for your support with this when we had to close some classes on Tuesday and Wednesday, hopefully everyone is now well, and we will have a usual week. I did though have the pleasure of working with students from Transitions all day on Monday – first a morning on the trampoline, followed by a musical  sing a long afternoon where some of Brabham class came along and joined in. Some classes...

12th October

Saturday 12th of October 2019
This week was harvest week! We celebrated the harvest in true Redway style with two visits to St Mary’s Church,  where the vicar, Paul and his team were as welcoming as always. Our final harvest celebration was in the orchard on Thursday morning. All three harvest festivals were a thanksgiving for the food produce we have and how fortunate we all are.  We all enjoyed singing our favourite harvest themed songs, there was some wonderful singing and signing from some of our pupils, while...

5th October

Saturday 5th of October 2019
A major focus of this week has been our preparation for our harvest festival’s next week. We had practices of our favourite harvest songs before school and classes have been hard at work making their boxes for harvest produce. We do hope that you will be able to come along and support us, this week is one of the highlights of our school year, and is a moment of ‘awe and wonder’ as well as celebrating how fortunate we are with our fruitful harvest. Classes have risen to the challenge of...

29th September 2019

Sunday 29th of September 2019
First, thank you all for supporting both Jeans for Genes Day and also our Macmillan Coffee Morning on Friday by coming along to the café, by baking cakes or just donating. We support a lot of good causes and your active involvement is very much appreciated. This week’s ever changing weather has provided us with some challenges. A classroom was flooded on Tuesday morning and then we had issues with the fans in the kitchen on Wednesday which meant that we had no gas for cooking! Everyone rose...

21st September

Saturday 21st of September 2019
This week in school we have all enjoyed the lovely sunny, weather with lots of classes enjoying their outside learning and Forest Schools work. The pleasure in the pupils faces of being outside and having fun with their learning is a credit to all the staff who strive to make every moment a positive experience. All pupils have relished in the pool being back in action – their weekly swim is often a highlight. The classes that go off site for their swim are doing very well and making progress with...
