6th April

Saturday 6th of April 2019
The end of the Spring Term has arrived and school closed on Friday until April 23rd for all but Pirates Class who have some significant training on that day. As expressed previously, it has been more than a busy term but with lots of positive, exciting learning and activities occurring. We said goodbye to Natasha and Michaela, who are taking up new teaching posts elsewhere and wish them both the very best. Our assemblies on Tuesday afternoon and Wednesday morning were based around our outside...

The penultimate week of term!  The time has flown by since we returned to school after the February half term holiday and once again this week we have all enjoyed the spring sunshine. It certainly did a lot for everyone’s well-being. We hope for as much sunshine as possible now we have our solar panels on the main school roof in the hope that we will see a drastic reduction in our energy bills. This next week is a busy one in school and as a result our end of term assemblies that are usually...

This week in school has been a reasonably quiet one – but with lots of positive learning and interaction occurring. So, it’s a short Headteachers weekly update because of this. We welcomed a new pupil into Willen Class,  Farron – Mae whom we are sure will enjoy all that life at The Redway has to offer and are confident that she will be happy and will learn whilst with us. The Leadership Team and Governors were very pleased with the update regarding the impact of our new...

It’s definitely been a rather wet and windy week which has meant that many of our pupils have been in ‘high spirits!’  But we have had a good week at school with lots of positive learning occurring. Although the weather has not been so favourable this week pupils attending Basil’s Barn, and experiencing Outdoor Learning have been really engaged with the practical learning activities and opportunities provided for them. They were not put off by the weather! Having said that,...

This week has been one of mixed emotions in school. First, and most importantly we said a sad goodbye to Jenson who will always be remembered in our hearts. Our thoughts are with his family at this sad time. However, we do have to focus on all our other pupils and ensuring that we continue to do the very best for them. Several pupils went to a Panathlon Tournament at Stoke Mandeville on Thursday and  did very well – they all returned to school very proud of their achievements and their...

We all have revelled in the lovely, balmy February sunshine this week and made the most of the unseasonal weather. It is rather surreal that this time last year we were experiencing ‘the beast from the east’ and this week we’ve had lovely warm sunny weather. The pupils have really enjoyed this and the outdoor learning experiences it has brought. We have also had a lot of fun in learning in school too – especially our drumming sessions across many classes – always a platform...

Happy Half Term Holiday everyone! We all really enjoyed and took advantage of the lovely warm sun shine on Thursday and Friday with classes going out into the local community – which everyone enjoyed. This past week has been our MFL week where we have been focussing on Greece and Greek! Pupils have had fun and have not only been dressing up in ancient Greek costumes but also  have been experiencing Greek music, food, and traditions as well as learning about some of the Greek heroes! This...

I trust that everyone is having a good weekend – despite the rain today. This past week has been a quiet one in school. We said goodbye to Marie a STA who has been at The Redway for a very long time and has led some fantastic yoga sessions with a variety of pupils. Marie has now has retired to embark on some exciting adventures. We will definitely miss her, but wish her all the very best for the future. Peter led the assembly on Wednesday – all about Chinese New Year. Pupils made Chinese...

The forecast snow finally arrived on Thursday evening, making the driving conditions on the side roads very difficult especially for our buses.  The road down to the main site is always dangerous. To ensure the safety of all our pupils the decision was made to close the school. Those staff who made it into school – many walked  - used the time vigilantly to prepare lessons, catch up with jobs, a deep clean of the pool and have a really good sort out of equipment. Thank you for your...

This  past week has been more than an unusual one. First, thank you all for your patience and understanding with the class closures due to significant illness across school with both staff and pupils. I am really hoping that we can regroup and be back to normal next week – but let’s wait and see! The work on transferring our lighting to LED lights has continued each evening this week.  We are pleased with the majority of the lights, how they look but especially the savings that...

We are really back into the ‘swing of things!’ All classes are embracing our new topic for the term – ‘Myths and Legends’ – Sam has already started a display of some delightful work by pupils. Our outdoor learning groups have continued – with lots of positive responses from the pupils and comments by staff about their engagement and involvement. We obviously take into account the weather conditions each day to see if it is appropriate for the pupils. In...

Happy New Year to everyone. I hope that you all had a relaxed and enjoyable festive season. It seems a long while ago now. It was good to see the pupils back in school again this week – as always at the start of each new term there were a lot of happy, smiling faces. We welcomed back Emma from maternity leave who has taken over in Mercedes Class and we also welcomed new STA’s. Over the holiday as I know some of you will be aware we have had solar panels fitted onto the school roof in...

Redway was in full Christmas spirit and cheer this past week.  It truly is ‘the most magical time of the year!’ The school has looked like a very special person all decorated out to the full for our Christmas activities and celebrations.  It’s awe inspiring opening up in the dark and switching on all the lights -  school looks wonderful. We do know how to party well! Staff wore a range of Christmas jumpers, leggings and hats throughout the week – adding a touch of...

The last two weeks of the Autumn Term are always busy with all the Christmas activities that occur in school. This past week was no different from previous years – the sense of ‘awe and wonder’ continued. We appreciated everyone’s support for our Christmas Fayre – all the hard work of staff and contributions by parents and carers as well as everyone attending. Credit has to go to Sharon for suggesting a change to a Christmas Craft Fayre to link to outdoor learning and what...

The highlight of this week was our first Christmas Concert at Christ the Cornerstone Church on Thursday. We were joined by the Mayor, many parents, carers, grandparents and friends of the school. Due to our rise in numbers we did not take the whole school as the pupils in Early Years and some primary classes will walk to St Mary’s Church, Woughton on the Green on Wednesday for their special concert. Thank you though to all who came on Thursday we raised £130 in donations – this is very...

As I sit and write it’s hard to believe that we are now in December – how did 2018 pass so quickly? This week, several classes have been on their end of term Christmas outings and have had a lovely time – others will be going out over the forthcoming weeks.  From the photographs I have seen from the visits so far, the looks on our pupils faces demonstrate they had a wonderful time. Verity took a group of pupils to a Boccia tournament where they met with pupils from other...

On Monday we held our Parents Consultation Afternoon, which was well attended. We were pleased with all the positive comments from parents and carers about the work that we do. It’s always good to have these discussions about how your son / daughter is at school and the work that we have been doing. We had a visitor  - all the way from America this week. Nate, who used to teach at The Redway and his daughter came and spent a morning in school, catching up with staff and those pupils whom he...

A slightly different week this week. I was on residential with a group of pupils and staff at The Calvert Trust in Devon. All pupils and staff really excelled – we were well supported in our two groups by Cat, Tyler and John. The weather was kind to us - amazingly so for November. Back at school arrangements have been sorted for our new bucket swing and other items to be installed at the rear of school just left of Brabham Classroom. We are thrilled with this as it will make a huge difference to...

As always, it was good to see the pupils back in school on Tuesday. We all hope that everyone had a lovely half term break. Over the half term lots of servicing of equipment has been carried out, the hoists, tracking, gym equipment as well as work on the air handling units and PAT testing – all gripping stuff! We also had a team of volunteers in school who did a lot of painting and tidying up for which we are very thankful. Monday was our training day, many staff were involved in essential...

All things relating to Bollywood was the focus for our Creative Arts Week this week in school. This linked in well with our topic focus of India this term. Classes have created Rangoli patterns using powder paint, danced to Indian music, and much, much more. Sam has done a wonderful display of work and photographs. Our scarecrows continue to inhabit various areas of school and our chosen one for the competition at Frosts – Jennifer – sadly did not win the competition at Frosts but they...

The scarecrows came to town this week!  All classes rose to the challenge of the competition. Staff and pupils paid to vote for the best one (in their opinion) The winner was Jennifer! Charlotte and Sam took her to Frosts to participate in their display. The other scarecrows are on display both inside and outside school. They are a bit special – classes have worked hard on these and they look fantastic. Well done to everyone. The architects came to see where our new build for the new two...

We were definitely blessed with the weather this week for our two Harvest Festivals at St Mary’s Church. This is one of several special occasions of our school year to which we all look forward. St Mary’s is such a beautiful church and Paul, the vicar and his helpers are always so welcoming and accommodating.  The walk through the orchard really helps set the scene – we have formative plans for something slightly different next year! Thank you though to everyone who came along to...

First, we have to say Congratulations to Tracy who had confirmation that she has passed her Masters Degree this week.  Well done to her – it has been a lot of hard work but she has been dedicated and determined. We are all very proud she has achieved this as well as being pleased for her. We have all enjoyed and made the most of the lovely autumnal weather this week, with lots of off site learning happening. Which is a good thing, as whilst typing this, sitting in the conservatory at home the...

First, thank you to all who supported our café on Friday in aid of Macmillan Cancer. It was very much appreciated. Next weeks Friday letter will inform everyone of the amount raised. The water leak is now all sorted, but we still have a hole! Anglian water are waiting until things dry out a little before completing the work. The stables though are still standing – we are just without a shed – but this will be rectified as soon as possible. However, other major water leaks have...

Our second full week of the new academic year has presented us with a few challenges! The main one being a major water leak near the stables and forest schools area at the top of the field. However, I have to say that Anglian Water and all their subcontractors have been fantastic in the work they have done, help they have given and liaising with school. Hopefully by Monday all will be back to normal, the hole refilled and the shed re constructed! Though I am sure the rain of this weekend will not be...
