26th June

Bonjour! Jaydon is all set to serve customers in the café on Friday
Sunday 26th of June 2016
I am writing this at home in Oxford whist we have the most amazing thunderstorm with hail! It’s not exactly ‘flaming June’  but then it is Glastonbury weekend so perhaps we should expect rain! It was good to be back in school and see all the pupils and staff after a week away on another successful and enjoyable residential in Devon. If you haven’t seen the latest newsreel from the residential visit – it’s a must – go to our school Facebook to see the link....

The traditional Calvert group photo in Ilfracombe
Sunday 19th of June 2016
What a week this has been! Deputy Di and the Leadership Team have done a fantastic job in ensuring that the school ran smoothly whilst I led the residential visit in Devon. Well done to all the staff for supporting her and assisting in making sure that the school ran smoothly with lots of wonderful activities and learning happening. Mike (Chair of Governors) also popped into school on Tuesday to have an overview too and support Di which was much appreciated. Obviously the main focus of the week was the...

Hassan enjoys exploring the puffer fish
Friday 17th of June 2016
During the summer term Hazel class have been enjoying the topic ‘Carnival of the Animals’ inspired by the music of Saint Saens. In this second half term we have focused on a piece of music called the ‘Aquarian’ and been listening to sounds of the sea as well as learning about aquatic animals. We have had good fun exploring sensory props in our sensory story ‘Fidgety Fish and Friends’. We have also splashed around in water and even felt the sand between our toes. The...

The carnival begins! The start of the parade at the Early Years and Primary sports day!
Sunday 12th of June 2016
The highlight of this week was Sports Day on Wednesday. Thank you to all our parents and carers who came along and joined in - - The Redway Newsreel says a lot! We designed it slightly differently this year to have a yoga and massage session under the trees on the field for some pupils, and also had the tumble track up in the gym as well as the disco projector in the hall. A good time was had by all and well done to all the staff but especially Team PE for all their hard work, before, during the day and...

Ladybirds are Class of the Week 10th June

Friday 10th of June 2016
Ladybirds have really been enjoying their topic this term ‘Around the World’. We have explored different countries through music, art and food as well as trips out. We have made Italian pizzas, Greek Salads, fruit Salad, and Mexican wraps. We have liked to explore the textures and the tastes. Through music sessions we have been practicing making vocal sessions and copying actions as part of some ‘Call and Response’ songs. Our favourite is the La La La song of the BBC website...

The Sunflower Garden Team from John Lewis
Saturday 4th of June 2016
I hope that everyone has had an enjoyable half term holiday, even though the weather was not at all kind to us in the middle of the week. However, things have been happening at school. As well as the usual half term ‘spruce up’ to the building we have had a team of volunteers from John Lewis in school making a circle outside the sensory cabin for sunflowers and other such plants as well as painting various areas of the school but in particular Tulips and Bluebells Classrooms. In addition...

Tambir achieves! Rides a bike independently for the first time.
Sunday 29th of May 2016
I hope that you are all having a good start to the half term holiday. It’s a lovely sunny day here in Oxford and I was out running very early this morning making the most of the delightful weather. Hopefully it will continue! This week in school we said a sad goodbye to Mandy in assembly. She will be truly missed within the ASD department by the pupils and colleagues. However we wish her all the best for the future - - Josh helped to say goodbye and then took over the microphone and clearly showed...

Rowan are Class of the Week 27th May

Friday 27th of May 2016
In Rowan we have been looking at out Topic ‘Into the Garden’. We have created a beautiful garden wall in class filled with flowers, birds and animal masks. We have had great fun selecting the materials for ourselves and exploring the textures and bright colours of the materials on offer to us. We have also spent a lot of time in the garden planning seeds and small potted plants to create a lush and useful garden which we can collect salad and herbs from to then use in our cooking. We have also...

Zoolab Visit

Friday 27th of May 2016
As part of our ‘Carnival of animals’ topic we invited Zoolab into school so that the pupils could meet a variety of different animals.  Most of the pupils were fascinated to see the different creatures and were happy to try touching them, stroking them and even holding them.  There were invertebrates in the form of a cockroach and a giant millipede.  The pupils seemed happy to investigate the cockroach, though some of the staff were definitely less keen and looked on from a...
