Kirstie in Rowan is Pupil of the Month for July 2011 (Rowan)

Thursday, July 7th 2011

Rowan’s pupil of the month is Kirstie.

Kirstie joined Rowan in February from another class in school, she has settled in very well and has been working very hard.  In maths we have been exploring the space around us. Kirstie has been exploring small spaces by going into tents and tunnels, but her favourite is to get into a range of different sized boxes.  We have also been learning about money.  Each week we write out a shopping list in symbols and then go to the local shops, with help Kirstie has managed to find the object she needed and then take it to the till and pay for it.

Kirstie enjoys listening to stories especially on a one to one basis, but she is now joining the rest of the class at the table during story time and during other sessions which is a real achievement for her.

She has also been more adventurous outside and has enjoyed being taken for a ride on the bike, being swung in the new birds nest swing and going on the new roundabout.

We think Kirstie’s biggest success is her use of communication; she started using PECS in February and is really doing well.
