Rob Gibbard : Staff Governor
I am proud to be a member of the busy governing body of The Redway School. I am currently based in the Transitions Department having joined the school around eight years ago, working first as a specialist teaching assistant in Key Stage 4 then – having successfully gained a BA (Hons) Learning and Teaching degree – as an unqualified teacher. My near aim is to gain my full teaching qualification.
As an intermediate Team-Teach tutor, I am also involved in planning and delivering behaviour management courses for staff within this setting and at other special and mainstream schools in the Milton Keynes area. I have a specific interest in communication and literacy, drawing on additional experience as a former newspaper journalist, editor and trainer. I am also a qualified first aider.
I passionately believe this school offers the finest possible education for its students and I wish to do everything I possibly can to ensure this continues into the future, providing our fabulous students with unsurpassed opportunities to fulfil their potential in a warm, caring, challenging and innovative learning environment.
Staff governors have the same rights as other governors and follow the same procedures, rules, and code of behaviour, including confidentiality standards. They are elected by the school staff and can offer to the governing body their expertise and understanding gained from their lived experience of their work in education. During discussions, they will provide a balanced account of staff beliefs on issues, but they will vote according to their own conscience and only ever in the best interests of the whole school community – the pupils, the staff and parents or carers.
I view this position seriously and approach it with honesty, integrity and enthusiasm, and a willingness to challenge if required. I welcome your views, whatever the issue, so please contact me via the transitions unit or write to me via the school email account.
